Platform & Issues

I believe....
That the government of the United States of America needs to be brought within the limited power set forth in the Constitution.
As President James Madison wrote when he vetoed a federal public work bill, “The legislative powers vested in Congress are specified and enumerated in the eighth section of the first article of the Constitution, and it does not appear that the power proposed to be exercised by the bill is among the enumerated powers, or that it falls by any just interpretation with the power to make laws necessary and proper for carrying into execution those or other powers vested by the Constitution in the Government of the United States...To refer the power in question to the clause "to provide for common defense and general welfare" would be contrary to the established and consistent rules of interpretation, as rendering the special and careful enumeration of powers which follow the clause nugatory and improper. Such a view of the Constitution would have the effect of giving to Congress a general power of legislation instead of the defined and limited one hitherto understood to belong to them...”
A view he held consistently, as shown when in Federalist Paper #45, he wrote, “The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.”

Where I stand on the issues....

Abortion: I do not believe that this should be a federal issue and it is only a federal issue due to the Roe vs. Wade decision of 1973. The government should neither provide funding to abortion providers, nor should the government fund "abortion alternative facilities".

Budget & Economy: I fully support a balanced budget, return to the Gold Standard, and abolishment of the Federal Reserve & IRS.

Civil Rights: I believe that all people should be treated equally under the law, no person should be given preferential treatment, nor discriminated against for any reason.

Corporations: End Corporate Welfare, allow a business to succeed or fail without governmental interference.

DC Voting Rights: Washington DC should be retro-ceded to fit within the “10 miles square” as prescribed by the Constitution, putting all residents in Maryland. The only land left within the District should be Government Offices, Museums and Parks.

Drugs: ALL Federal Drug laws should be repealed; there were none until the early 20th Century. The Marihuana Tax Act of 1937 was ruled Unconstitutional in 1969. In 1970, however,President Nixon was successful in getting Congress to pass the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, and States were forced to adopt the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. These sets of laws are a blatant violation of the 9th and 10th Amendments.

Education: The Federal Department of Education should be abolished, as it is not authorized to exist under the Constitution.

Energy & Oil: The United States should be energy independent, this can be accomplished by using viable alternative energy sources that do not need to be imported from other countries, and allowing drilling/mining for oil and coal in places known to have them. However, tax-payer funding should not be used to supply private-industry the funding needed to develop these alternatives.

Environment: I share the opinion of Dr. Ron Paul "The environment is better protected under private property rights .... We as property owners can't violate our neighbors' property. We can't pollute their air or their water. We can't dump our garbage on their property .... Too often, conservatives and libertarians fall short on defending environmental concerns, and they resort to saying, 'Well, let's turn it over to the EPA. The EPA will take care of us .... We can divvy up the permits that allow you to pollute.' So I don't particularly like that method."

Families & Children: Issues involving families and children are best left to the States and municipalities.

Foreign Policy: The sovereignty of all nations should be respected, and in the spirit of our Founding Fathers; I will promote a policy of “Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none.”

Government Reform: The Government should be transparent and free of corruption.
If the government operated completely within the bounds of the Constitution, there would no need for "reform"; however, because our "representatives" have decided to pick & choose what parts of the Constitution they will abide by, it is necessary to "reform" the government back into what the Constitution says it CAN do.

Gun Control: As a Life Member of the Second Amendment Foundation, I agree that all law abiding citizens have a Constitutional Right to possess firearms.

Health Care: Is an individual responsibility.

Homeland Security: I do not support the creation/existence of the "Department of Homeland Security"; the military is Constitutionally responsible for protecting the country.

Immigration: I welcome everyone that comes to this country LEGALLY; I support a uniform immigration policy, so that people from all countries have the same procedures for becoming legal citizens.

Infrastructure & Technology: This is an issue best left to private industry.

Jobs: This is an issue best left to private industry.

Principles & Values: It is not and should not be Federal policy to dictate principles & values. Principles and values are two things you learn from those you associate with. People in Alaska will naturally have slightly different values than those in California or Florida; and that is the beauty of having a nation made up of Fifty different States. We're one nation, but we all have our own culture.

Social Security: Every individual should be responsible for his/her own retirement, therefore, the Social Security for each person should be put into a private account, such as a 401k or Money Market Account. All taxpayers under the age of 45 should be given the option of opting out of the Social Security Program.

Tax Reform: Ideally the IRS and income taxes would be repealed and replaced with nothing.

Trade: Free Trade does not require a treaty, rather a lack of government involvement.

United Nations: Withdraw immediately! “Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations; entangling alliances with none.”

War & Peace: The only time that the military should be sent into battle is after an official Declaration of War; which hasn't happened since June 5, 1942 during World War II. The military of United States of America should never be used as a worldwide police force.

Welfare & Poverty: Federal tax-payer funding for welfare should be phased out as quickly as possible.
